Description
The front page of the sports section of the "Los Angeles Examiner," 18 August 1929. The headline concerns Pacific Coast League baseball results for the local Los Angeles Angels and Hollywood Stars teams. Other items deal with baseball, boxing, football and a funeral of "sportsman and political leader" Jerry Bassity of San Francisco. Bassity was an underworld figure who owned prostitution houses as well as had involvement in city politics as a boss and was a horseman. He was also second cousin to Edward Bassity, former husband of Maud Bassity, the "housekeeper" for the Temple family during the bulk of the 1920s. With browning, a few stains and some soiling, the overall condition is good.
