Description

"The Greenbacker," 23 August 1879, J. W. Chrisman, Los Angeles. The short-lived newspaper promoted the Greenback Labor Party, which supported a monetary system based on unbacked paper currency rather than the existing gold standard. The party fielded national candidates for Congress and the presidency but folded in 1888. With fragility, stains, soiling, losses, and tears, the overall condition is poor.
