Description
BOOK, "THE HISTORY OF OREGON AND CALIFORNIA AND THE OTHER TERRITORIES OF THE NORTH-WEST COAST OF AMERICA," by Robert Greenhow (Boston: Charles C. Little and James Brown,) 1844. The work, by the translator and librarian for the State Department and author of a similar work in 1840, is largely a work about the Oregon area, but includes significant material on California, and contains geographic and chronologically-developed historical sections. There is an appendix of primary-source records relating to the region, but the frontispiece map was mainly torn from the book, so that only a section showing the "Sandwich" or Hawaiian islands remains. Pastedown labels from the House of Representatives Library are on the covers. With significant cover wear and the back cover mostly detached, but with the pages tight and clean, the condition is poor.
