"The Home Canners' Year Book, 1928," published by the Boston Woven Hose and Rubber Company. The 72-page artifact has a yellow paper cover with a black field stretching from the upper left to the lower right and within this is the title. Four green-bordered circles are linked from the botton left to the top right and feature images of canned fruits and vegetables. After an introduction to home canners, the document has sections on methods and equipment; the process of canning; early summer fruits; vegetables; late fruits; syrups and brines; canned soups; meat and chicken canning; james and marmalades; pickles and relishes; spiced fruits; jelly; and beverages. There is also a section of menus and recipes, organized by meal type, including wedding luncheons, and season, and including vegetables and desserts. At the end are time tables for home canning and various pieces of advice on the process. Between pages 36 and 37 are remaining labels to be used for canning. These are perforated and have the year "1928", and type of food on them, including fruits, vegetables, and meat. In fair condition, the artifact has spine abrasions; cover creases on the back, light soiling, light stains on the back, some tarnish where the staples were, and a tear on the top of the front cover; some discoloration of pages and corner creases on pages 37-46.Lexicon
