"The Mastery of the Air" by William J. Claxton (Third edition, Glasgow: Blackie & Son, Limited, n. d. [ca. 1925],) 264 pp. A hardcover book without a dustjacket, featuing the title in black ink over an image in blue with a biplane in the sky, over the title, and fields, mountains and clouds below. On the spine is a similar image of the biplane and landscape, with the book title and author's last name at the top and the publisher's name at the bottom. The work is directed toward younger audiences and concerns the development of air-flight from balloons to dirigibles, air ships and zeppelins to airplanes. While much of the work is focused on pioneering air flight, some attention is given to military uses, such as during the First World War, and the book is directed toward the development of the British aircraft industry. There are several illustrations, including drawings and photographs in the work, which is in fair condition with a slightly loose binding and some wear to the spine and cover edges.Lexicon
