Description

Color: Blue; White; Yellow "The Mentor," March 1928 issue. The periodical has a gold leaf-and-vine design within a blue-colored background border and the words "SCIENCE;" "TRAVEL;" "ART;" "HISTORY;" "LITERATURE" in scrolls placed within these designs. These subjects are those covered by articles found within the publication. Within the border is the periodical title, cost per copy, and date and year of publication. An image, in blue and gold, of a Royal Canadian Mounted Police on horseback and amidst a mountainous scene, takes up much of the cover. At the bottom are the words "STORY OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED / WHAT DO DOGS KNOW - BY A.P. TERHUNE." Articles are about such topics as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police; the intelligence of dogs; long-distance running Indians of Mexico; Indian relations with the mounted police in Canada; cultures in Saudi Arabia, Africa, and Taiwan; the Mongol rulers Genghis and Kublai Khan; and the Persian poet Omar Khayyam and his masterpiece, the "Rubaiyat." There are many black and white photographs and other illustrations, as well as many advertisements. In poor condition, there is significant loss and separation of the binding on the lower portion; cover creases, surface soiling, stains, and some tears; mustiness; and discoloration to some pages.
