"The Pioneer: A Story of the Stage Coach" by John Steven McGroarty (Los Angeles: Hellman Commercial Trust and Savings Bank, 1925), n.p. A pocket-sized pamphlet with an image of a stage coach in a mountainous forest setting with red and gray colors. The title is in red ink above this with the subtitle in black ink below the title. McGroarty's text is about Herman W. Hellman, Los Angeles banker, and his early employment as a stage coach driver for Wells Fargo, dealing with attempted thefts. Also mentioned is Hellman's brother, Isaias, who founded the second (not first as indicated here) bank in Los Angeles, Hellman, Temple and Company, with F. P. F. Temple and William Workman. Herman Hellman also became a banker in his brother's Farmers and Merchants Bank and the publisher of the pamphlet is the bank his sons founded. There is a photo of Herman Hellman. With a few creases, light overall surface soiling, and minot discoloration on the cover, the item is in good condition.Lexicon
