Description

THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE MISSION WALKWAY'S EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE, CA. 1994 Color: Black, white A black and white photograph of the damage caused to the south side of La Casa Nueva's Mission Walkway by the Northridge earthquake, ca. 1994. The image shows a damaged arch being supported by three beams positioned vertically at center; two beams are supporting the arch and placed one in front of the other. The beam furthest to the left appears to have an additional wooden block between it and the arch. Two large cracks run from the top center of the arch to the top of the wall where a beam holds the walkway's grape arbor. The grape arbor beam is supported by the third vertical beam, goes from center to left and out of the image. Two additional beams going from left to right can be seen at left center while three longer beams rest on top of these to hold the arbor. Trunk and leaves of a large tree can be seen through the arch; behind it can be seen the top of the black iron gate surrounding the site with rays of sunlight peering through. Another arch can be seen at bottom right with the top of a tree appearing in its opening. Taken to record the damage caused by the January 1994 earthquake for future repair work, the image is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
