Description
THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE MISSION WALKWAY'S EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE, CA. 1994
Color: Black, white
A black and white photograph of the earthquake damage caused to the south side of La Casa Nueva's Mission Walkway by the Northridge earthquake, ca. 1994. The image shows the top of a damaged arch at center being supported by two beams, with the one in the forefront having a wooden block between it and the arch; a third beam appears behind the second and vanishes behind the arch, with what seems to be the top of a fourth beam just to the right. The top of the arch has two large cracks, one on either side of the beams supporting it, and running up to the top of the structure. At the top running from left to right, and partially hidden by the branches and leaves of trees located at opposite ends of the image, appear the tile shingles on the top of the walkway's arches; beams of bright sunlight peer through the top of the shingles. At the bottom through the arch can be seen the vines of the grape arbor; two beams holding the arbor appear vertically, one at bottom center and the other to its left. Two additional arbor beams appear resting on top of the two previous and running from left to right, disappearing behind the arch. The photograph was taken to record the damage caused by the January 1994 earthquake for future repair work and is in mint condition.
