Description

"THE STANDARD OIL ROAD MAP OF CALIFORNIA," 1929 Color: Blue; Red; White A road map "The Standard Oil Road Map of California," issued by Standard Oil Company of California, 1929. The front panel has the title at the bottom, along with the copyright date and company name. At the top, in a blue field, are logos for three company products, including two gasoline items and motor oil. The back panel is similar, but the bottom reads "At / STANDARD OIL / DEALERS / CANADA to / MEXICO," referring to the availability of the three aforementioned products, and there is a clover-like logo with "STANDARD OIL / PRODUCTS" in it. When opened once there is a table of distances for California and western cities on two panels. Because of a staple at the top, further unfolding is somewhat like a page in a book, so there are sections consisting of local maps in Sacramento, San Francisco, and Los Angeles; regional maps for the Bay Area, northern California, central California; southern California, and the Los Angeles region. At the lower right of the back panel is a pencil inscription of a former owner's name and address. With creases, some soiling, light yellowing, a few light stains on the front and back panels, and small edge tears, the overall condition is good.
