"The Statutes of California and Amendments to the Codes, Passed at the Twenty-Eighth Session of the Legislature, 1889," (San Francisco: Bancroft-Whitney Company,) 1889. The 759-page book consists of 290 acts passed by the legislature, as well as material in the front on twenty-six concurrent and joint resolutions; a list of state officers, including government officeholders and legislators; commissioners of deeds for each state, territory, and some foreign countries; and the state constitution. After the texts of the statutes and resolutions is the index, which is arranged alphabetically by subject and by code numerically arranged. The item has its original leather board binding and there are stamps from a law library. With edge and corner abrasions; acid burns on some pages; tape on the spine; brittleness in the cover; page browning; flaking on the spine and fading of lettering there; foxing on some pages; a loose binding; losses to the cover; scratches on page edges; stains on several pages and the cover; and tears on the cover, the condition is poor.
