"The Story of California Oranges and Lemons," a promotional pamphlet by The Sunkist Growers, published by the California Fruit Growers Exchange, 1927. The 30-page booklet has, on the front cover, the title at the top over an image of a woman, at lower right, holding a basket of oranges and standing next to a tree. Behind her is a separate background image of citrus groves, a house and other outbuildings, and, in the background, the snowcapped peaks of some mountains. On the back cover is the continuation of the background image of groves, buildings, and mountains. Contents include an introductory note; early history of the citrus industry in the state; material on the orange, specifically the Washington Navel and California Valencia; a section on lemons; one on grapefruit; a history of the California Fruit Growers Exchange, including the sales organization, Fruit Growers Supply Company, and the products department; the food and health value of citrus fruits; citrus fruit uses; questions; and reference and listings of free literature. There are several black and white photographs, some illustrating the irrigating, smudging, picking, washing, and packing of fruit, and one California map as illustrations. With some spine abrasions and a few cover corner creases, the artifact is in good condition.Lexicon
