Description

"Theater in Los Angeles Calif blasted by a bomb," 29 June 1926. The image shows much of the structure, including the marquee and sign, with blown-out windows, decorative elements damaged and roof tiles knocked loose as several persons stand in the street observing. The theater, formerly at 2524 Brooklyn (now Cesar Chavez) Avenue in Boyle Heights, was built earlier in the year and designed by L.A. Smith. The blast was caused by dynamite set off by a building tenant, baker and confectioner William Graczefsky (aka Graham). On the reverse is the penciled title and a date stamp for "N. E. A." With minor staining, pest damage, and edge rubbing, the condition is good.
