Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Thomas Temple at Mission San Juan Capistrano, ca. 1920s. Temple sits at the right on the brick wall of a fountain. He clasps both hands on his lap and has the right ankle behind the left. He wears a tie, sweater with the letter, "D," dark slacks, and shoes. On the wall and to the left is a hat. Behind him is the fountain center-piece which is round and has many designs. The area at the foot of the fountain is under construction. Across the background is the mission which has an arcade across the bottom of the front. Behind this are many doors and windows. The structure has one floor at the right, and two at the left. Many windows line the second floor. A chimney is at the center of the top on the ceramic-shingled roof. Stamped at the top of the back is the number, "339." The photograph was housed in Agnes Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With water damage, deep stains, and decomposition at the left, the artifact is in poor condition.
