Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Thomas Temple with his cat, ca. 1920s. Temple croutches on a stone-lined dirt path at the center and smiles at the camera. He wears a dark vest; long-sleeve shirt; dark slacks; socks; and shoes. He rests his left elbow on the left knee and caresses the cat's upright tail with the right hand. The cat stands in front of him and faces to the right. It has white fur above and around the nose; chest; stomach; paws; and hind legs. The rest of the fur is black. Bushes flank the path and are also across the background. A stamp at the bottom of the back reads, "ANDERSON / Photo Service / EL MONTE." At the top right corner is the number, "1." The photograph was housed in Agnes Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With only a slight yellowing of the paper, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
