Description

THOMAS TEMPLE'S NOTES ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE WORKMAN HOUSE Document: One page of notes, written in pencil and on three-hole punches paper, by Thomas W. Temple II about the construction of the Workman House. Information included is a construction date of 1842-43; Indian labor made the adobes on site; kitchen bricks were made in Los Angeles in 1855 by Jacob Wextel; hand-hewn beams from the mountains in the house and wine cellar; notes about the use of brea on the roof; and a notation that the home was remodeled in 1872 by the architect who designed the Temple Block. It appears the notes were incomplete based on the end, where he wrote "Burial ground-plot" and then nothing further. The document is in fair condition with small tears, creases, and discoloration. From the Thomas Temple Collection, donated by Ruth Ann Michaelis. None
