Description
THOMAS W. TEMPLE II NEXT TO JUNIPERO SERRA STATUE, MISSION SAN GABRIEL
Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of Thomas W. Temple II standing next to a statue of Father Junipero Serra, founder of the early California missions, at the Mission San Gabriel, ca. 1930. Temple is at the right, wearing a darker colored vest, tie, trousers and shoes with a white shirt. He holds a light-colored hat with a dark band in his right hand at his side. The statue is behind Temple, enclosed within a low iron fence. There is a tall white pedestal on which is the following inscription "FATHER / JUNIPERO SERRA / ONE HUNDRED / AND FIFTIETH / ANNIVERSARY / SAN GABRIEL / MISSION / 1771-1921." While much of the area surrounding Temple and the statue is dirt, there are many tall trees and hints of a building in the background left. On the center of the reverse is an oval stamp, within which is "ANDERSON / Photo Service / EL MONTE." The number "24" is stamped at the lower left corner. With some severe water damage at the top edge and remnants of a mounting corner at the top left, the artifact is in fair condition.
