Description

THOMAS W. TEMPLE II TO WALTER P. TEMPLE, 24 AUGUST 1931 A letter (a) and envelope (b) from Thomas W. Temple II to Walter P. Temple, 24 August 1931. The letter is on plain white stationery and the envelope has a printed return address area and is pre-stamped for postage. Written in blue ink, the letter concerns news of the other Temple children, including Agnes Fatjo's pregnancy and Maud Bassity; a report on conditions of the Homestead and mention of Walter Temple's sister, Margarita Rowland; news of sluggish sales of tickets for the Los Angeles sesquicentennial; and makes vague mention of lost Temple property that could not be regained. In fair condition the letter was folded into sixths; has faded ink on the reverse; smearing of ink at four places on the front; and a long crease on the right edge. With some discoloration; creases; surface staining of ink on the reverse; and staining at the lower right edge, the envelope is in fair condition, as well. A photo (c) shows Thomas W. Temple II, standing in front of the Vigare Adobe home. He is wearing a white buttoned down shirt, vest and pants. The background shows a support column of the adobe home, and a wooden chair. Thomas lived in the Vigare home from 1930-1938. It had belonged to his aunt Luz Vigare. There are a few accretions to the front of the image, lower left corner. The reverse side has light soiling, finger prints and a stamp that reads "ANDERSON/Photo Service/El Monte" with a "1" marked. It is in good condition, overall.
