Description

THOMAS W. TEMPLE II'S NOTES ON RANCHO LA MERCED, CA. 1950s. Color: White, blue Seven pages of notes by Thomas W. Temple II on the Rancho La Merced, ca. 1950s. The seven sheets of line paper contain Temple's handwritten notes in blue ink recording transactions made regarding property on the rancho from 1850 until about 1900. Names mentioned include original grantee Casilda Soto, Temple's grandfather and great-grandfather, F.P.F. Temple and William Workman, and Juan Matias Sanchez, long-time half-owner of the ranch with F.P.F. Temple (see 97.58.4.13 for a related item.) It is not known for what purpose this was done, or where the source materials were (presumably the Los Angeles County Archives.) Thomas did prepare an unpublished manuscript on Juan Matias Sanchez in 1959 and this may have been preparatory to that, hence the estimate of date. With rust stains from a paper clip at the top of the first and last pages; creases; and discoloration, the notes are in fair condition.
