Description

THOMAS W. TEMPLE IN CHARRO OUTFIT, POSED AT SAN GABRIEL POST OFFICE Color: Black; White A copy of a black and white photograph of Thomas W. Temple II dressed in Mexican costume and posed at a window of the San Gabriel Post Office, ca. 1923. Thomas wears a dark-colored outfit with lighter-colored trim at the collar, front, sleeves and trousers sides. He has on a large sombrero with designs on the rim, but these cannot be made out. He also has on black boots. Resting his right arm on the sill of an arched window with wooden bars that is within a larger arched opening in the wall, Thomas also has a cigarette held at his chest in his left hand. Aside from some very basic work done in the plaster, such as a baseboard-like cut toward the ground level and a step created at the bottom of the window opening, there is little of note about the building, which was erected by Walter P. Temple in 1922-23. Part of the sidewalk along the east side of Santa Anita Avenue is also visible. With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
