Description

THOMAS W. TEMPLE, LUIS P. FATJO AND UNIDENTIFIED MAN IN LA CASA NUEVA COURTYARD Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Thomas W. Temple, Luis P. Fatjo and an unidentified man in the courtyard of La Casa Nueva, ca. 1926. The photographer stands at the southeast corner of the dirt area to the south of the courtyard, next to the Mission Walkway (note the grapes at the upper left corner.) Temple, Fatjo and the third man are standing in the smoothed dirt area of the courtyard close to where the fountain would later be added. Nothing, including flagstone walks, planters, or landscaping are in this area. A portion of the second-floor balcony area reveals that the balusters and rail are yet to be completed, though the rest of the house appears to be complete, including the porticos and the second-floor west wing patio. In the porticos are plants and furniture, indicating that Walter Temple and Maud Bassity were occupying their rooms at the ends of the first-floor wings. A thin tree at left of center is the only planted landscape item. At lower right, the film appears to be overexposed. At the lower right of the reverse is the stamped number "31" while the word "VELOX" is at several places on the paper. A pencil mark at center seems to be a checkmark. Aside from some surface soiling and a bent lower right corner, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
