Description

THREE UNIDENTIFIED PERSONS (POSS. JOSEPH WORKMAN ON LEFT), CA. 1848 Color: Black and white A black and white photograph of a daguerreotype, owned by David A. Workman, of three unidentified persons, ca. 1848. The inner portion of the case is shown in the image with the velvet liner at left and the image framed in a simple unadorned metal frame at right. Shown are three persons seated: a woman at center in a billowy dress and wearing a brooch and holding what may be a silk handkerchief; a bespectacled man at right with mutton chop whiskers and beard, a dark three-piece suit with high-buttoned vest, white shirt, and dark tie; and a younger, dark-skinned man at left with a three-piece dark suit with low-buttoned vest, white shirt, and dark tie. Though there is no identification for the image, the young man on the left may be Joseph Workman with his cousin James Vickers and Vickers' wife. Joseph lived with his aunt Agnes Workman Vickers, her son James and their family in Baltimore before 1848 (hence the estimated date of the image.) Without wear or damage the print is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
