Description

TINTYPE OF TEMPLE FAMILY, SANTA MONICA, ca. 1906 Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of a tintype with a portrait of members of the Temple family, ca. 1906. The tintype with roughly cut edges was removed from its paper frame and placed on a copy stand. Part of the matte under the tintype is visible around it. The image shows five adults and two children, identified as follows: seated from left to right are Maria Ramona (Mama Coco) Alvitre Gonzalez, Susie Castino Temple, and Laura Gonzalez Temple. The first and last were mother and daughter. Standing behind the women are Charles P. Temple, with son Charles, Jr. in his arms, and Walter P. Temple, with son Thomas W. II, in his arms. Behind the group is a painted background of a beach scene with crashing waves, the shore, bluffs overlooking the beach and hills in the background. From information provided by Thomas W. Temple II's widow the tintype was taken at Santa Monica. As a newly created image from the negative, which is item 2.1, the artifact is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
