Description

Tombstone - broken fragment, words "[M?]attie, Daughter Of J.W. and Isa..." are readable, slight blue border visible. Probable late 19th century, judging from style and typeface used. Believed to be a daughter of J.W. and Isabella Kelly Drown--J.W. Drown was listed as a farm laborer in the 1880 census from Francis W. Temple, then-owner of the Homestead site. Drown was also raised by F.P.F. and A.M.W. Temple after his lawyer father, Ezra, died in 1863. Found in the mausoleum in July 1981 by curator Carol Crilly. A smaller piece of the stone is 97.31.1 Said by former site owner Robert Brown to have been with the remaining base on the north side of the cemetery.
