Description

Color: Black; White "Travel Suggestions for the Vacationist," a pamphlet issued by the Southern Pacific Lines, 1927. The front cover has the title at the top, the company name at the bottom and two images at the center. The first, within a border, shows two couples boarding a train with luggage in the foreground, while the other shows a western landscape and horseriders descending a mountain trail. On the reverse is the company logo. The work begins with descriptions of the four transcontinental lines to the Pacific coast offered by the company, followed by descriptions of western states, Mexico and New Orleans. Side trips to famous landmarks in the west are also described with a chart of fares for these trips on page five. Itineraries, fares and maps are then included in 13 tours, some ttranscontinental and some including travel on the Southern Pacific Steamship Line from New York to New Orleans or on Canadian rails. At the center of the pamphlet is a two-page map with a full display of company lines, including the four transcontinental routes. Toward the back are charts for fares involving Pullman sleeping car berths by starting and ending locations, and summer tourist seats for the thirteen trips. On the inside back cover is a list of east coast offices and company officials at each. In good condition, the object has some abrasions along the spine; creases at the cover corners and edges; some discoloration; and overall surface soiling on the cover.
