"True Bear Stories," by Joaquin Miller (Chicago and New York: Rand McNally and Company,) 1925. The 229-page hardcover book has a light brown cloth cover with black lettering, consisting of the title at the top, the author's name at the bottom, and a silhouette image of a bear on a plateau in a mountain setting at the center of the front. On the spine is the title, author's last name, and the publisher's name. After a preface by Miller, there is an introduction by David Starr Jordan on California bears. There are seventeen stories followed by a list of the scientific classifications of bears, Indian lore about the animals, and "curious facts" about bears. With rubbing on the spine ends and cover corners and edges; acid burns to flysheets; dented corners and edges; slight cover and page edge soiling; slight yellowing of pages; foxing on several pages and their edges; pencil markings and a stamp on the first flysheet; light moisture damage; mustiness; stains on the cover and on the inside from handling; and tears to the fabric edges on the corners, the general condition is good.Lexicon
