On the front are the title and author's names at the top and an image of a garden with a palm tree, cacti and other plants, as well as a sidewalk. The work consists of eight chapters, two by Harraden on a general descriptive essay on the region and one on outdoor life for women. The others, by Edwards, are on climate, living expenses and other aspects of seeking to settle in the southern California area, the impact of the area on respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis, and sections on those who will or will not benefit from the region's climate. With cover edge and corner rubbing, dented corners, soiling, fading of printing, stains on the back, and tears on the corner and spine, as well as page acid burns, browning, fading of the gold edging, flaking of edges, mustiness, stains, and significant foxing, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
