Description

TWO UNIDENTIFIED MEN NEAR A CHURCH OR MISSION ENTRANCE Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of two unidentified males standing in front of a church or California mission entrance, developed March 18, 1932. The two are adjacent to a wide arched entrance with painted or finished wooden doors. Over the doors is a Latin inscription "Hie domus Dei est & porta coeli." A cross is on a small shelf or cornice in front of the motto and over the door. Just above the door is another inscription in English reading "THIS IS THE LARGEST OF THE OLD CHURCHES BUILT IN THREE AISLES." Next to the two is a cypress tree. There appears to be another arched doorway with the door of unfinished wood. The area in the foreground is paved. The man at the left is an older individual, perhaps in his fifties or sixties, while the one to the right is much younger, probably in his teens or early twenties. This latter is missing part of his left leg and he has crutches to support himself. On the reverse is a stamp with the words "GENUINE KRYSTAL GLOSS / GUARANTEED FOREVER" at the top, a silhouette of a bear on all four, with the date "MAR 18 1932" within, at the center, and the words "BEAR PHOTO SERVICES" under the bear. At the top right corner is the stamped number "D90." With some water damage and other stains and wear, mainly at the top of the image, the artifact is in fair condition. Number-Units: 1
