Description

TWO WOMAN STANDING NEAR ENSENADA HOTEL UNDER CONSTRUCTION Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of two women standing near a hotel under construction in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, ca. 1929. The two are standing on a large concrete base with the one at right wearing a light-colored knee-length dress with a dark-colored belt and a dark-colored sweater. The other, at left, wears a dark-colored bathing suit with a white belt. Behind them is a multi-level section of the building, topped by a tower. Arched windows, Moorish-looking cornice work, chimneys, red tile roofing, and grilles are some of the architectural features. Behind the women is a set of stairs that is featured in item 64.5, while an archway at the far left may be that seen in 65.1. The structure was a hotel partially financed by Walter P. Temple. There is some significant water damage at the top and left edges of the front, including surface stains and soiling, as well as more of the same on the reverse, so the object is in fair condition.
