Description

UNIDENTIFIED CALIFORNIA MISSION BELL TOWER AND CUPOLA Color: Black; White A photograph of a bell tower and cupola at an unidentified California mission, ca. 1928. The wallks of the tower are massive and constructed of roughly-hewn stones. At the upper third is a large open archway, within which is a bell suspended on a horizontal bar. Atop the tower is a cupola, surmounted by a simple cross. To the left is the top of a steeply-pitched wooden shingled roof, likely for the main portion of the church. In the foreground are some large trees with dark foliage, obscuring most of the view of the structure. On the reverse center is the penciled number "38." There is a significant crease extending from the top edge to the bottom right corner and the top right corner is dogeared. Aside from these, there is very light surface soiling, so the artifact is in fair condition. Number-Units: 1
