Description

Color: Black; White A photograph of an unidentified street in Los Angeles, ca. 1900. The photographer stood in the street and captures some horse-drawn conveyances and pedestrians on the largely empty thoroughfare. On both sides of the street are commercial buildings ranging from one to three or four stories. There are canopies, signs, advertising murals and other notable features to the buildings. At the left is the New St. Charles Hotel and, further down the street, is the Occidental Hotel. In the foreground is the shadow of the photographer and two other persons, suggesting that the view is north, which seems borne out by what appear to be the San Gabriel Mountains in the distance. At the lower left is some material that may be photo album residue or ink stains. On the back center is the number "6" while the number "8" is at the bottom right corner. With some light soiling and creasing on the reverse, as well as the aforementioned material on the front, the item is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
