Description

Color: Black; Orange; White A pamphlet by the Union Pacific Railroad, printed by Poole Brothers, Inc., Chicago, July 1928. As stored, the document is partially unfolded and two panels have images of the same landscape scene, but the one on the left is identified as 1861 and shows a stagecoach riding along a trail, whereas the one on the right shows a Union Pacific train on a track, as well as an airplane flying overhead. The reverse is a grouping of seven photographs of notable features in the western U. S. Inside pagination begins with pages 3-6, a narrative of the railroad and the Overland Trail route, including some history of exploration, transportation, the railroad company, and accompanying photos and drawings. Page six begins several western itineraries, including Council Bluffs, Iowa to Salt Lake City; Omaha, Nebraska to Ogden, Utah; Ogden to Salt Lake City; Salt Lake City to Los Angeles; Ogden to San Francisco; Granger, Wyoming to Seattle; Pendleton, Oregon to Spokane, Washington; Kansas City to Cheyenne; and Ogden to Yellowstone Park and Butte, Montana. Each description contains photos and drawings and descriptions of stops. At the back is a list of Union Pacific-owned rail lines, company representatives and contact information, and a list of executives. With minor creasing; some soiling; slight yellowing; light foxing; and small corner tears, the overall condition of the document is good.
