Description
UNKNOWN WOMAN AT LA CASA NUEVA'S COURTYARD FOUNTAIN
Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of an unknown woman at the fountain of La Casa Nueva's courtyard, ca. 1920s. The woman sits at the center on the edge of the fountain. She smiles at the camera and wears a two-piece dress, hose, and dark-colored heels. Both of hands are on her lap and she holds a cigarette between the right fingers. At the far right are the two round mill-stones of the fountain's center-piece. On the second stone are several smaller stones, some of which are shaped like manos. At the bottom of the left is part of the courtyard's stone walk. Across the back are many trees, some of which are banana trees. Part of the north side of the home is visible through the branches and leaves, including part of the arcade and the glass door to the Dining Room on the first floor. At the left of the top is the wood rail of the second floor balcony and above this the roof's tiles. Stamped at the center of the back are the words, "ANDERSON / Photo Service / EL MONTE." At the top left corner is the number, "1." The photograph was housed in Agnes Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With some yellowing of the paper and stains along the top edge, the artifact is in fair condition.
