Description
V. G. Stewart's "California Theater Ensemble" at the Speckels Theatre, San Diego by J. C. Milligan, ca. 1920s. The image shows the group of thirty-one, based at the California Theatre in Los Angeles, dressed in Scottish tartan kilts, scarves, and berets performing "favorite Scotch melodies". Below them is an orchestra in the pit. Stage scenery includes trees and a mountainous background. The stage curtain looks identical to that in item 1.7 of the accesion, except that the access to the pit is different. The Spreckels and the California theaters may have been owned by the same persons. Typed information about the photo is on the reverse, but covered by a pasted-on sheet of paper. With creases and edge rubbing, the overall condition is fair.
