Description

Color: Black; Gray; Red A catalog of steel and iron-work products offered by The Van Dorn Iron Works Company, ca. 1926. The paper cover has a red border, within which is the company name and headquarters, the company's date of establishment and the catalog number (from which the estimated date is derived), a clover-like border at the center within which are the words "MANUFACTURERS / OF / STEEL AND IRON / WORK"; and an index of their specialties. At the top left corner is a single hole punched. On the inside front cover is an advertisement for their specialty of making heavy fencing for cemeteries and parks and entrance gates and arches. A statement of the company and a testimony to the durability of its products is next, followed by a statement on the quality construction used by the company. A description of iron and steel fencing products is followed by listings, starting with residence fencing and continued by carriage gates; galvanized fencing; crimped wire railings; pipe railing; wrought iron railings; and iron stair and stair railings. A testimonial from a builder and descriptions of important contracts conducted by the company follow, along with examples of large projects and materials, including security fencing material, steel cells and cages and security doors, and vesitbule vault doors. Steel joist hangers, filing cabinets, elevator fronts, grilles, lawn furniture and vases, sanitary plumbing supplies, stable fittings, and other items conclude the offerings, which are accompanied by engravings, prices, dimensions and, generally, descriptions. Aside from slight discoloration, pencil marks on the cover, and some creases, the document is in good condition.
