Description

Color: Blue; Green; Red; White; Yellow A colored photo postcard of Van Nuys Hotel restaurant, ca. 1910s. The view shows many set tables with white tablecloths, dark wood chairs with red uphostelry, and table settings. At the right are large windows with stained glass at the top in transoms. The ceiling, back wall and two columns are decorated in gilt borders, chandleier cartouches, and other ornamentation. Towards the bottom of the column at the left is a fluted base with a shelf, on which are several small potted plants. The carpet is a forest green and the edges of the image are blurred to create an effect. At the bottom right is the caption "Corner of Van Nuys Hotel Cafe / Los Angeles, Cal." On the reverse of the unused card is a space at the left for a message and at the right for an address. At the top right is the word "POST CARD", within which is a sun logo for the Van Ornum Colorprint Company. At the upper right is a box for the stamp and at the upper left is the logo of the manufacturer, the name and locations of which are at the left. With losses at the lower corners, surface soiling, stains, dented corners, creases, and a triangular area of acid burns from an impression made by another object on the upper right of the reverse, the overall condition is fair.
