Description

A white veil for Edith Temple Stanton (1891-1985), ca. 1900. The veil is said to have belonged to Edith for her First Holy Communion. The ceremony is considered an essential holy sacrament for children of the Catholic faith and is typically completed around the age of 7 or 8 years. The veil is hand-made of cotton and a catch stitch pattern was used. At the crown section, the fabric was gathered together. A white ribbon was stitched on to the veil in the same area, with two ribbon pieces left out, possibly used to secure it to the head. The veil is moderately transparent, has a hole at the bottom right, it is in fair condition.
