2003.88.2.3Description
Color: Brown
A phonograph record sleeve from Victor Talking Machine Company, ca. 1928. The sleeve, possibly the original for item 2.1 of this accession has a curved cut at the top for removal of the record. On one side is a panel at the top right with the phrase "Waiting to Play / for You." At the bottom left is another panel with the manufacturer's name, location, and logo. At the top left is an image of a conductor and four musicians, with the former looking much like famed bandleader Paul Whiteman. At the bottom right is an image of a woman setting the needle on a record in a phonograph player. The reverse shows three models of the company's "Orthophonic Victrolas" at the top and, in two panels at the bottom left and right, lists ten items from its recordings catalog. Between these panels is another with the company name, location, and logo. There is a 3 1/2" hole at the center for display of the record label. With many creases, dents, some soiling, tears at the edges and indentations from the record, the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
