Description

VIEW OF AN OIL FIELD FROM AN ELEVATED POSITION Color: Black; White A photograph from an elevated view of an oil field in southern California, 1920s. The image, perhaps taken from an oil derrick, although all that can be seen is metal support pieces and a rope, looks over a slightly hilly area. Notable are curvy dirt roads, oil derricks scattered throughout the landscape, a house at the background center and what appears to be a refinery or part of the refining process in the foreground below the photographer's location. At the top left of the reverse is a penciled number "8." There are six other photographs of oil fields in this accession. With soiling, creases, stains, residue of mounting corners at the bottom left, and fingerprints marks, the general condition is good. Number-Units: 1
