Color: Black; White
A reproduced black and white photograph of part of Los Angeles, ca. 1860s. It appears the photographer stood on Fort Moore (or Poundcake or Bunker) Hill looking to the northeast to take the image, which shows many one-story adobe structures, all of which have flat roofs and some with porches. Some courtyards at the rear of houses are notable, especially near the foreground. At the center far right is a two-story building with a four-gabled roof. Behind this is a light-colored line that may be a road and, in the background, it appears the Los Angeles River meanders through an open area with trees and grass areas. Smoke seems to be billowing from a point near the river at the upper left. Barely visible at the top and in the far background are the San Gabriel Mountains. A reproduction of this image is found in the book "Los Angeles from the Days of the Pueblo" and the caption identified that area as Sonoratown, north of the Plaza, about 1870. As a newly reproduced photograph, the object is in mint condition.
