Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the Workman Homestead from the west, ca. 1927. The photographer stood just north of Evergreen Lane, the entrance to the property from Turnbull Canyon on the west. In the background left is La Casa Nueva, appearing to be largely completed, with the tile roof laid; the second-floor sundecks done; and the Mission Walkway finished. There is scaffolding on the main portion of the house, possible for final plastering. To the right of the house is the Water Tower, with a very small portion of the pump house roof visible. At the right are the auditorium, a small portion of the roof to the adjacent dining hall, and closer to the photographer what appears to have been the laundry room and tool shed. Evergreen Lane is at the bottom right Three poles, one for electrical power, right of center, and two others near the auditorium and dining hall, possibly antennas, are seen. Several palm trees are around La Casa Nueva; the road is lined with small evergreens; and there are trees in the fields, probably walnuts. Printed in several places onto the reverse is the word "VELOX", while the number "29" is stamped at the lower right. Other than slight discoloration on the edge and some surface soiling on the reverse, the image is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
