Description

WALTER AND NELLIE TEMPLE WITH EDITH STANTON, WORKMAN HOUSE FRONT Color: Blue; Gray A color polaroid photograph of Nellie and Walter Temple and Edith Temple Stanton seated at the front of the Workman House, 4 April 1977. Taken from the northwest, the image shows the three seated next to the porch stairs and under the Lady Banks rose arbor, which at that time extended from the porch and roof to the trunk some fifteen or twenty feet away. Green painted wood supports on the porch and in the grounds just beyond a large cement patio hold up the enormous bush. The steps and porch facade are much as they appeared in the 1920s with concrete steps and wooden "hoods" between the porch columns. These were later removed and the appearance of the original porch recreated. At the left is the northwest wing with evidence of major plaster damage, after ivy had been removed from the wall. Scaffolding parts are seen against the north wall of this wing. On the reverse is an ink inscription reading "Workman Residence / north patio arbor / Mr. & Mrs. Walter Temple, Jr. / (left) and Mrs. Edith Stanton / (cousin, to right) in / background under arbor / photo by archt 4/4/79." Below this is a stamp with restoration architect Raymond Girvigian's name, address, and phone number, covered by a strip of tape. Little wear or damage is observed and the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
