Description

WALTER P. TEMPLE, SR. AND MILTON KAUFFMAN STANDING AT AN ARCHED DOORWAY AT LA GRUILLA HOTEL IN ENSENADA Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Walter P. Temple, Sr. and Milton Kauffman standing at an arched doorway at La Gruilla Hotel in Ensenada, Mexico, ca. 1920s. Temple stands at the left of the center and leans against the arch. He wears eye-glasses, a hat, a dark trenchoat, dark slacks, and dark shoes with laces. His left hand is in the coat's pocket. He holds a cigarette up to his mouth with his right hand. The shadow created by the brim of Temple's hat makes his face difficult to see. On the floor at the right of the doorway is a wood beam. Kauffman stands below two steps that are across the front of the doorway. He wears a hat, a tie, a white shirt, suspenders, and a dark two-piece suit. He has both hands in the suit's jacket pockets. His tie and jacket are flailed back in evidence of a windy day. The ground at Kauffaman's feet is dirt. Many wood stakes which could have marked the area for the laying of concrete are planted in the dirt. On the back is a blue stamp for Anderson Photo Service in El Monte. The image was housed in Agnes Temple's photo album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. The artifact is in good condition with only a slight yellowing of the paper. Number-Units: 1
