Description

WALTER TEMPLE WITH CLERGY, LA CASA NUEVA DEDICATION CEREMONY Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Walter Temple talking with Roman Catholic clergymen at the dedication of La Casa Nueva in Laura Temple's memory, 28 December 1923. Temple, with his back to the camera, wears a dark suit and shoes and holds a hat in his left hand, while his right hand is outstretched in gesture or to shake hands. Bishop John J. Cantwell is behind Temple at right, wearing his vestments, while an unidentified priest is at left in his garments. Two other men in dark suits stand at center right. At center left, newly mounted in the wall between the front door and the arched window is the dedication plaque, which was moved later to its current position at the northeast corner of the house. Part of the front wall of the house is visible, the walls and rough plastering having just been finished, but no woodwork or doors in the window and door openings. The ground in front is still dirt with no indications of patio work started. Stamped into the paper on the reverse is "VELOX," while the number "11" is stamped at the lower right corner. There is a crease at the center, indicating the image may have been folded in half, but otherwise the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
