Description

Color: Brown A color polaroid photograph of the Water Tower, restored or nearly so, 12 July 1977. Taken from the southwest, the image shows the tower nearly or totally completed with the rebuilt upper deck; installed flagpole and weathervane, and the brick body replastered and cleaned. The wood trim on the doors and windows seem to have white primer and may have been awaiting a final coat of paint. Around the tower are parts of sycamore and oak trees, with the top of the historic San Gabriel palm near La Casa Nueva at left. To the lower left corner is the northeastern corner of the Pio Pico Gallery. Through a gap in the portico of the Gallery is the northern end of the reconstructed pump house. At lower right are two vehicles, presumably belonging to restoration craftspersons. At the bottom of the object is an ink inscription reading "City OF INDUSTRY / 10/3/77." On the reverse lower section is another ink inscription reading "9/16/77." Aside from surface soiling on the reverse, the artifact shows little sign of wear or damage and is in good condition.
