Description

Color: Brown A color polaroid photograph of the Water Tower upper deck being demolished before reconstruction, 30 March 1977. The photographer stood on the upper deck, facing the northeast corner. The badly weathered and worn woodwork was being removed, with several long wooden pieces lying against the edge of the deck. A ladder reclines against the corner at the center. Fragments and pieces of wood lie on the floor at the bottom of the image. At the top, blurry because of the nearness to the photographer is one of the crosspieces for the old roof. In the background are tops of oak trees in the Workman House courtyard just north of the tower. On the bottom of the front is an ink inscription reading "Upper Floor Watch Tower / Demo in process. 3/30/77" With little or no indication of wear or damage, the object is in good condition.
