Description

WATER TOWER UPPER DECK DEMOLITION, DETAIL OF OLD POWER SUPPLY Color: Brown A color polaroid photograph of the Water Tower upper deck being demolished before reconstruction, with a detail of old electrical connections, 30 March 1977. The photographer stood on the upper deck, facing the south. Unlike today's restoration, there was a larger flat planked floor to the top deck at the apex of the roof. On a post at center are several areas with knob-and-tube wiring that are the focus of the image. This post is joined to the small fenced-in area which housed the original flagpole. At left and behind the fenced area are some of the floor boards for the platform. In the background is the top of the Pio Pico Gallery roof and, at upper right, a truck driving on the newly opened extension of Don Julian Rd. At the bottom of the object is an ink inscription reading "Watch Tower Abandoned / Power Supply - S.E. Corner / 3/30/77". With little or no indication of wear or damage, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
