Description

WATER TOWER UPPER DECK RECONSTRUCTION, FRAMING OF DECK Color: Brown A color polaroid photograph of the Water Tower upper deck being framed, 25 May 1977. The tower is at center with the basic supports in place and, presumably the ribs and other supports for the roof, as well, though this cannot be seen clearly. The smaller deck at the top has not yet been started. Around the brick section of the tower is metal-frame scaffolding and the main entrance doors to the south are boarded up, leaving the impression that no work had yet been done on the lower portion and that restoration went from the top down. To the lower left corner, the original pump house is visible, before its demolition and reconstruction. Surrounding the tower are sycamore and oak trees and the historic San Gabriel palm is at left. At the bottom of the object is an ink inscription "Watch Tower Framing / 5/25/77." There are few indications of wear or damage and the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
