Description

A Waterbury Nosleep brand clock, ca. 1915. The case is of silver metal. Two balled feet at the bottom allow the clock to stand. At the top is the alarm bell with a turnkey at the crest of the bell and lever at the front to turn the alarm on and off. On the back is a darker colored metal plate with alarm winding key; alarm setting hand; time-winding key; hand setting key; and day of the week setting lever. Patent dates are just below this last lever and the company name is at the top. There are also four nuts to hold the plate to the clock mechanism. The plate has Roman numeral hours and has marks; black hour and minute hands; and an inset face for the alarm with Roman numeral hours; quarter-hour hash marks; and hand. At the center just below where the hour and minute hands end is the brand name and company name, which is also at the bottom. The clock is in fair condition with substantial tarnishing and some dents on the metal surface; stains or discoloration on the paper face; and rust on the back cover.Printed at the center of the face plate is "NOSLEEP / WATERBURY." At the lower part of the face plate is printed "MADE IN U.S.A. BY WATERBURY CLOCK CO." This is repeated at the upper part of the rear plate, where it is stamped. Stamped at the bottom of the rear plate is "PATENTED / NOV. 29, 1910 / JAN. 29, 1918 / JUNE 15, 1920 / JUNE 7, 1921." Also stamped are descriptions of the functions on the rear plate, that is, "ALARM / ALARM SET / TIME / HAND SET."
