Description

"Way Out West in Hollywood," lyrics by Earle Foxe and music by Lynn Cowan, published evidently by the Hollywood Boulevard Association and copyrighted by Cowan, 1929. The front has a orange-tinted photo of Hollywood with many spotlights in the view and two cartoons of a film scene with a flapper and man in a suit dancing before a camera and of Indians near tepees and a man in a feathered headdress smoking a peace pipe, the smoke of which forms the word "Hollywood" at the top. The lyrics use a stereotypical Indian portrayal as a basis for a theme about film-making and includes a "Recitation to Indian Tom Tom Music or Natomah" that is remarkable for its content about Indian-White relations. On the back is a collage of over a hundred faces of actors with the phrase "They Shop on Hollywood Boulevard and Dictate the Fashions of the World," furnished by the Hollywood Boulevard Association, which copyrighted the photo in 1928. With sticker residue on the back, browning, soiling and some rubbing, the overall condition is fair.
